MATTER to open in New York City

Today, I am pleased to announce MATTER’s plans to open a second location in New York City. We will be collaborating with the New York City Economic Development Corporation (NYCEDC) and Deerfield Management, a leading healthcare investment firm, to bring MATTER to 345 Park Avenue South in the heart of Manhattan.

The New York region is home to one of the world’s great concentrations of healthcare and life sciences startups, large pharmaceutical and biotech companies, leading health systems and academic research centers. We are thrilled to work with NYCEDC and Deerfield to bring our innovation model to New York and begin working closely with entrepreneurs, scientists and healthcare innovators there to improve the healthcare experience.

The New York region is home to one of the world’s great concentrations of healthcare and life sciences startups, large pharmaceutical and biotech companies, leading health systems and academic research centers.

With support from public and private entities, we opened MATTER’s doors in Chicago in early 2015 with 30 startup companies and a handful of programs. Today, the MATTER community includes more than 200 startup and growth-stage companies from around the world, as well as dozens of world-class hospitals and health systems, universities and industry-leading organizations. MATTER startups have collectively raised more than $1 billion to fuel their growth, and their solutions have benefitted more than 90 million people. In Chicago and beyond, we support healthcare entrepreneurship and innovation through a diverse array of programs and opportunities for collaboration.

In 2018, NYCEDC published a request for proposals to build an innovation center for the healthcare and life sciences community in New York. We are honored to have won that competition. Interest from world-class cities, such as New York, is terrific recognition of what we have built in Chicago.

Innovation isn’t bound by city limits…Opening MATTER in New York is a natural next step in our vision to create the strongest healthcare innovation community globally.

Innovation isn’t bound by city limits. By becoming a bridge between Chicago and New York City, we will be able to more easily create East Coast opportunities for Chicago-based companies, and help New York companies enter the Midwest. Opening MATTER in New York is a natural next step in our vision to create the strongest healthcare innovation community globally.

In the coming months, we will be working with NYCEDC and Deerfield to finalize details of our New York operations, and will be hiring a team there to lead our efforts. You can learn more about the initiative by reading today’s press releases from MATTER, NYCEDC and Deerfield.

We can’t wait to engage with the healthcare and life sciences community in New York City and the region. To stay up to date on this project as details are finalized, sign up here. See you in New York!
