Overview

About 850 million people suffer from kidney disease globally, and it is estimated that up to 10 million of them have reached end-stage kidney disease (ESKD), which requires dialysis or transplant. Baxter is a leader in driving access to kidney care across the continuum through insight-driven innovation and services so patients can live their best lives. This includes providing leading peritoneal dialysis (PD) cyclers and the most widely used remote patient management digital health platform for home care.

Baxter, in collaboration with MATTER, is proud to present the inaugural 2022 University Hackathon. In this call for student innovators, we are seeking novel ideas and concepts to support home dialysis and digital health as an enabler to therapy that will also support the growing need for patients to have access to therapy in their home, especially as the COVID-19 pandemic has a continued impact on kidney patients who also suffer from immune dysfunction.

We are seeking solutions to the problem statements outlined in tracks 1 and 2:

Track 1: How can we extend Baxter’s existing portfolio of products to lower the burden of therapy for end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients receiving home peritoneal dialysis (PD) throughout their care journey?
Seeking novel concepts and ideas inclusive of but not limited to: remote patient management, education, logistical assistance and overall engagement. Concepts could add, combine or change current solutions offered by Baxter.

Track 2: How can we help clinics improve their operational efficiencies to support home peritoneal dialysis (PD) therapy?
Seeking novel concepts and ideas inclusive of but not limited to improving: workflow, patient-to-clinician allocation and operational costs.

The concepts and ideas can address one or a combination of the two tracks listed above. The concepts and ideas cannot be an already-existing Baxter solution.
