MATTER and Advocate Aurora Health announce the second annual Health Tech Venture Challenge

This year’s challenge calls for solutions that transform care for the aging population.

Downers Grove and Chicago, IL — Advocate Aurora Health, one of the 10 largest not-for-profit integrated health systems in the country, and MATTER, the premier healthcare incubator and innovation hub, announced today the second annual Health Tech Venture Challenge. The nationwide competition invites innovators to elevate ideas and solutions that address unmet needs in healthcare.

This year, Advocate Aurora Health and MATTER are seeking solutions to help aging adults live comfortably and safely in their own homes.

“We see tremendous opportunity to use innovative technology to help America’s aging population live well,” said Scott Powder, chief strategy officer of Advocate Aurora Health. “The Health Tech Venture Challenge gives energetic entrepreneurs an opening to work with subject matter experts throughout our health system, and we can’t wait to hear their ideas.”

Last year’s Health Tech Venture Challenge called on the healthcare startup community to reimagine primary care. The program led to a successful collaboration between Advocate Aurora Health and Lytic, a digital health startup that is developing a chatbot-powered health management platform. Lytic was awarded a $10,000 cash prize and a six-month MATTER membership, and the company has been working with dozens of Advocate Aurora Health experts over several months to help take their company to the next level.

Building on the success of the first Health Tech Venture Challenge, Advocate Aurora Health has expanded the challenge prize. In addition to the $10,000 cash award and a six-month MATTER membership, this year’s winner will be guaranteed the opportunity to pilot their solution with Advocate Aurora Health.

“Last year’s challenge produced a positive outcome for Advocate Aurora Health and Lytic — and will ultimately benefit patients,” MATTER CEO Steven Collens said. “This year’s challenge creates yet another great opportunity for a startup venture to develop their solution together with a world-class institution.”

The 2019 Health Tech Venture Challenge is open to early stage startups building solutions to advance the care and wellbeing of America’s aging adults. Successful submissions will demonstrate a novel use of technology to identify and respond to health and safety issues proactively, address the social determinants of health and/or provide connections and information to caregivers and family members.

Interested companies can learn more and apply by visiting the challenge website. There will be an informational session held at MATTER on September 12 at 12:30pm CDT. Applications are due by 5:00pm CDT on September 24.
