Recap: MATTER at HLTH 2024
Last week, the MATTER team joined more than 12,000 healthcare innovators in Las Vegas. From discussing the innovation practices of tomorrow with Johnson & Johnson to making new connections in the exhibit hall, here are a few of our favorite moments and key takeaways from HLTH 2024.
MATTER startups packed the exhibit hall
Our startup pavilion was buzzing with activity and fostered meaningful connections between MATTER startups and HLTH attendees. This year, 20 MATTER startups showcased cutting-edge healthcare technologies, connecting with leaders from top organizations across the industry and meeting 1:1 with potential partners, customers and investors.
Featured startups in our pavilion included AI Nexus Healthcare, AIQ Solutions, AIRS Medical, AITRICS, BellSant, Ciconia Medical, Cylinder, Dina, Enhanced Medical Nutrition, GoCheck Kids, Genesis Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, Health Note, Nanodropper, OpenLoop, ParentReady, PranaQ, Rheumera, SkinIO and Zuri Fertility.

Maternal health was front-and-center
A key theme at HLTH 2024 was the focus on maternal health, with powerful conversations about the maternal health crisis in the U.S. One of the standout discussions featured Chelsea Clinton and Jennifer Klein (White House Gender Policy Council), who led a dynamic panel alongside Dr. Bayo Curry-Winchell on tackling maternal mortality. The conversation underscored the urgent need for better support and systemic change in maternal care, drawing a large audience.
In a different but equally compelling conversation, Halle Berry took the stage to talk about menopause and the importance of open dialogue around women+’s health at every stage of life. Dr. Jill Biden, the First Lady of the United States, also spoke on the HLTH Main Stage to discuss the importance of women’s health research.
“It’s a problem that’s so simple—yet often ignored: women’s health is understudied and research is underfunded,” Biden said. “As a result, too many of our medications, treatments, health products, and medical school textbooks are based on men. That’s why, if you ask any woman in America about her health care, she probably has a story to tell.”
MATTER startups shined at the Digital Health Hub Awards
We’re proud to announce that several MATTER startups received top honors at the Digital Health Hub Awards:
- Grin, a MATTER/SMILE Health alum, took home the Best in Class award in the dental health category.
- GoCheck Kids, a leader in children’s health, also won Best in Class in the Kids Health category.
- Backpack Healthcare, which specializes in mental and behavioral health, won the Rising Star award in the mental and behavioral health category.
Additionally, both Grin and Backpack Healthcare received $50,000 Rising Star grants, which will help them continue to innovate and expand their impact on healthcare.
