MATTER partners with Roche Diabetes Care to source solutions for diabetes-related complications and comorbidities

The partners unveil a startup challenge to improve the quality of life for those living with diabetes.

Chicago, IL, April 7, 2021 — MATTER, the premier healthcare incubator and innovation hub, today announced a partnership with Roche Diabetes Care, a global leader in integrated Personalized Diabetes Management (iPDM), to host the 2021 Roche Diabetes Care Innovation Challenge. The challenge will source solutions that help people living with diabetes assess and monitor diabetes-related complications and limit risk progression.

“We’ve learned from people with diabetes that they struggle with managing and reducing their individual risk for diabetes-related complications, in the hopes of ultimately avoiding them”, said Marco de Polo, Head of Strategic Insights & Open Innovation at Roche Diabetes Care. “Now in our second year of the Innovation Challenge, we are excited to build on our success from last year, and look forward to collaborating with startups who can help address these challenges innovatively and effectively, and bring true relief to patients with diabetes.”

One of the main challenges for people living with diabetes, and for providers and payers is developing a strategic plan to successfully assess, monitor and manage diabetes-related risks such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetic retinopathy and kidney disease. The 2021 Roche Diabetes Care Innovation Challenge is looking to accelerate novel solutions that effectively monitor an individual’s risk of developing diabetes-related complications, or empower individuals and their providers to manage that risk order to slow, stop or reverse the risk progression.

“Together with Roche Diabetes Care, we will bring together leaders in the space to partner with entrepreneurs to develop and scale solutions to improve the lives of people living with diabetes,” said Steven Collens, CEO of MATTER. “Our innovation program will identify the most promising technologies from around the world and accelerate their progress so they can reach and help more people living with diabetes.”

Following the event, three to five finalists will be selected to progress to the accelerator phase where they will have the opportunity to develop and pitch their pilot proposal.
