Partnering with startups to improve the lives of people living with diabetes, Roche Diabetes Care (RDC) wondered: How might we identify the right combination of personalized therapies, activities or behaviors that will improve management and provide greater insight into care planning for people living with diabetes and their healthcare providers?

Alongside RDC, MATTER opened a global call for solutions and designed a custom accelerator program that would allow RDC to work hand-in-hand with finalist teams to co-develop solutions before committing to a winner. From a pool of applicants from across the globe, 10 startups were selected as semifinalists and entered a bootcamp at MATTER to further pressure-test their solutions. MATTER developed a fully virtual experience to dispersed teams of entrepreneurs across the globe. Four finalist teams participated in a six-week, fully virtual accelerator focused on team-based sessions that helped finalists validate the technical aspects of their ventures and articulate a final collaboration project proposal.

Four finalist teams pitched their solutions to a panel of judges via Zoom. The winning startup, DayTwo, received $20,000, a pilot opportunity with Roche and a one-year MATTER membership. Given the breadth, diversity and quality of solutions presented by the finalists, Roche is exploring further opportunities with all the challenge finalists.
