Startups and COVID-19

Starting in March, mHUB, MATTER and 1871 launched Chicago Proactive Response (CPR): a collaboration to mobilize the tech ecosystem around designing solutions that could directly support the fight against COVID-19. CPR identified more than 300 technology ventures with relevant solutions and helped them connect with state, city and healthcare officials to deploy.

Top event takeaways

Here’s what a few of the thought leaders who joined us in 2020 had to share about digital transformation, entrepreneurship and what it means to be a healthcare provider.

Digital Transformation at the Enterprise Level

“The role of artificial intelligence is going to have a massive impact on how we think about care and care delivery, and it’s going to redefine healthcare just like it has redefined other industries. AI, machine learning and predictive analytics will be embedded in every aspect of health and healthcare.”

Tales from the Trenches™

“Flexibility, adaptability and — most importantly to me — belief and passion in your mission are the most important characteristics of healthcare entrepreneurs. This is about changing people’s lives…A lot of people are suffering, and we have a shot at helping them in ways that are friendly, fit into their lives and create change that traditional care can’t. We have a responsibility and a duty to do so.”

Mindfulness & Mental Health During COVID-19

“Healthcare professionals are carrying double the burden of living through all of the same things we are and being on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic. In a caring profession, they may be the only person with somebody at the end of their life. They are sitting with an unbelievable amount of suffering, and as a result they need to actively cultivate a certain level of compassion and empathy.”

In working with the entrepreneurs through MATTER’s Mentor Clinic, one thing has become apparent: Each and every person I have had the pleasure of mentoring has a true drive for making the world a better place. I often leave mentorship sessions with the sense that I have received just as much knowledge and perspective as I have given.

Thank you.

Whatever role you played, thank you for being a part of our community last year. We look forward to collaborating in 2021, and beyond.
